“As the humble servants of the Savior, we should pray for the manifestations of the Holy Ghost to come to us in our service and to those we serve. Humble prayer to our Heavenly Father, in deep faith in Jesus Christ, is essential to qualify us for the companionship of the Holy Ghost.” Henry B. Eyring, Serve with the Spirit, 2010 General Conference (via that-we-might-have-joy)

“The best antidote I know for worry is work. The best cure for weariness is the challenge of helping someone who is even more tired. One of the great ironies of life is this: He or she who serves almost always benefits more than he or she who is served.” Gordon B. Hinckley (via return-to-virtue)

rdfalberg:

This is such a wonderful film on faith, hope, and love.  When I think why I’m waiting for marriage I look at the young man in this film and the woman he loves who he is separated from over 2 1/2 years and in two different corners of the world.  He was presented with several opportunities to sell himself short and give in to temptation.  He stood strong, and was faithful to himself and Heavenly Father, and to the woman he loved, who he later married.  It gives me strength to know others have been in my shoes before and overcame the world through Heavenly Father, and that I can do the same.

“To which Jesus responded (and here again I acknowledge my nonscriptural elaboration), perhaps saying something like: “Then Peter, why are you here? Why are we back on this same shore, by these same nets, having this same conversation? Wasn’t it obvious then and isn’t it obvious now that if I want fish, I can get fish? What I need, Peter, are disciples—and I need them forever. I need someone to feed my sheep and save my lambs. I need someone to preach my gospel and defend my faith. I need someone who loves me, truly, truly loves me, and loves what our Father in Heaven has commissioned me to do. Ours is not a feeble message. It is not a fleeting task. It is not hapless; it is not hopeless; it is not to be consigned to the ash heap of history. It is the work of Almighty God, and it is to change the world. So, Peter, for the second and presumably the last time, I am asking you to leave all this and to go teach and testify, labor and serve loyally until the day in which they will do to you exactly what they did to me.” The First Great Commandment by Jeffrey R. Holland from the October 2012 General Conference (via scerythlabs)

“God does notice us, and he watches over us. But it is usually through another person that he meets our needs. Therefore, it is vital that we serve each other in the kingdom.” Spencer W. Kimball, Small Acts of Service, Dec. 1974)

“I am trying to be voice for the very angels of heaven in thanking you for every good thing you have ever done, for every kind word you have ever said, for every sacrifice you have ever made in extending to someone—to anyone—the beauty and blessings of the gospel of Jesus Christ.” Jeffrey R. Holland (via return-to-virtue)
