More Holiness Give Me - Hymn 131

more-holiness-give-me:

Prayerfully

More holiness give me,
More strivings within,
More patience in suff’ring,
More sorrow for sin,
More faith in my Savior,
More sense of his care,
More joy in his service,
More purpose in prayer.

More gratitude give me,
More trust in the Lord,
More pride in his glory,
More hope in his word,
More tears for his sorrows,
More pain at his grief,
More meekness in trial,
More praise for relief.

More purity give me,
More strength to o’ercome,
More freedom from earth-stains,
More longing for home.
More fit for the kingdom,
More used would I be,
More blessed and holy—
More, Savior, like thee.

Text and music: Philip Paul Bliss, 1838–1876

The Edge by Samy Charnine

One sweetly solemn thought      comes to me o’er and o’er:I am nearer home today      than I’ve ever been before,Nearer my Father’s house      where the many mansions be,Nearer the great white throne,      nearer the crystal sea,Nearer the bounds of life      where we lay our burdens down, nearer leaving the cross,      nearer gaining the crown. But lying darkly between,      winding down through the night, is the silent, unknown stream      that leads at last to the light. Father, be near when my feet      are slipping o’er the brink, for it may be I am nearer home,      nearer now than I think.

Back story: A few days ago, I blog-stalked a friend, and found a post regarding marriage and returned missionaries, specifically sister missionaries. I’ll be honest, I’m… quite interested in this friend, so I was thinking about whether I would want to serve a mission when the time came. I mean, I’m 18, so I’m years away yet, but a mission is something I feel I should think about early on.

I kept thinking about it and just could not come to any conclusion at all. But later that night, at an a cappella workshop, we sang this song, and I have not been able to get it out of my head since.

I’m taking this as a prompting.
